EBO Diploma Examination 2008
The deadline for registration for EBOD 2008 was January 31st, 2008. The application period has been closed as
of February 1st. A total number of 283 applicants have participated, a new record! The EBOD 2008 was held
at the Palais des Congrès.

General Assembly
The latest General Assembly took place in Brussels (Belgium) on Saturday November 24th, 2007.

EBO Meetings
A new section on EBO Meetings has been opened on the website.

EBO Exchange Programme 2008
The registration for the EBO Exchange Programme 2008 has opened since October 1st, 2007 and will be
concluded on December 30th, 2007.

The EBO Diploma Examination in Paris next May was opened for applications on December 1, 2006.
The application term was closed on February 1, 2007.

The EBO Web Site Gains in Popularity, Moves to Antwerp
The responsibility for the EBO Web Site, renewed two years ago and since then updated regularly from Helsinki,
Finland, moved on February 12, 2007, to new EBO headquarters in Antwerp, Belgium. During the last months,
the EBO pages have attracted from 40 to 80 visitors daily. We thank you for your continued interest!

Marie-José Tassignon to Succeed Tero Kivelä
On November 25, 2006, the National Delegates elected in Brussels the President, President Elect and Chairperson
of the CME Committe for the term 2007-2008. The President will be professor Marie-José Tassignon from the
University of Antwerp, Belgium. Marko Hawlina, Slovenia, became the President Elect.

The EBO Has A New Host
The web site of the EBO is now hosted in Belgium. The old servers in Germany closed down, causing a brief
interim period of no show during which the files were transferred and directories updated. We duly apologise
and are glad to be back in business!

EBOD 2006: Eighteen New Fellows and 109 Fellows-to-Be
More candidates than ever before took part in the European Board of Ophthalmology Diploma Examination in
Paris on May 5, 2006. Most of them were successful, and the Board will have 127 new Fellows once also those
who are residents have been registered in their home countries. Passing rate was unchanged.

The EBO in 2006: What is her role? What is her goal?
The Eureopean Board of Ophthalmology works on voluntary basis and therefore the President Elect, Prof.
Marie-José Tassignon, in her New Year Greeting appeals to all ophthalmologists of good will and with a strong
European vocation to join and support the Board in gaining its goals in year 2006.

Slovenian way towards EBO standards
The Board got ten new member countries in 2004, beginning an exciting era in European ophthalmology.

Record number of Candidates in the Diploma Examination in Paris, May 5, 2006
The EBO Diploma Examination in Paris next May will host more aspirants to the European Diploma than ever,
156 people. Registration and handing out of identity cards on May 5, 2006, from 8:15 a.m. to 8:45 a.m., in the
Palais des Congrès, will take place in front of room 351 AB (côté Neuilly).

Application Time for Diploma Examination Will End On February 1, 2006
The EBO Diploma Examination in Paris next May was opened for applications on November 1. Candidates should
notice that the deadline for applications is moved from traditional April to February 1, 2006. Because of the
increasing number of participants, more lead time is needed to ensure a corresponding number of examiners.

Exchange Program for Term 2005-2006 Launched
The European Board of Ophthalmology aims to guarantee a high standard of care in countries of the European
Union by ensuring that the training of ophthalmologists is raised to the highest possible level. In addition to an
exchange of ten residents, the new scheme also allows for exchange of teachers between training institutions.

EBOD 2005: Eighty-Five New Fellows and Fellows-to-Be
More candidates than ever before took part in the European Board of Ophthalmology Diploma Examination in
Paris on May 6, 2005. Most of them were successful, and the Board will have 85 new Fellows once also those
who are residents have been registered in their home countries.

Glimpse to the Near Future of European Ophthalmology
The EBO Executive Committee met in Helsinki, Finland, on February 12, 2005 to discuss how it would best be
able to advance European Ophthalmology during its term. Marie-José Tassignon, the President Elect, summarises
the possibilities.

New President, New Executive Committee

On November 20, 2004, the National Delegates elected in Brussels the Executive Committee and Chairmen of the
other standing Committees of the Board for the term 2005-2008. The EBO President for the two-year term
starting as of January, 2005, will be professor Tero Kivelä from the University of Helsinki, Finland.

Ten New Member Countries to Join the Board
With the expansion of the European Union, up to twenty new delegates are expected to gather in Potsdam in June,
2005, to decide on the actions of the Board and its standing Committees for the term 2005-2006.

Logbook for Residents Launched
The EBO has launched a logbook for ophthalmology residents. The attractive booklet is more than just a logbook
– it is a professional development portfolio that will help residents and faculties especially in countries without a
national logbook.
